How To Achieve Timeless Style
When curating a forever wardrobe, timelessness is an important consideration. Natural fibres, beautiful fit, and personalized design require a significant investment of time and money. The resulting garment is satisfying, special, and 100% worth it, but there is a common and creeping concern that timelessness is a myth, and investment is a risk.
Fashion’s trend cycle keeps our closets interesting and personal style evolving. It makes us feel current and cool. But it also fuels feelings of inadequacy that inspire frequent wardrobe turnover. Those emotions can encourage us to go for the short-term, fall apart fix, instead of items built to be worn often and forever. So how can we make sure our beautiful investment pieces stay with us for decades rather than months?
Many think investment pieces need to be classic, basic, and safe, but I disagree. Taking the time to figure out your personal style is the number one way to defy passing trends and protect your investment. Women who look timeless do so because they always look like themselves no matter the decade.
Once you know your personal style deeply, you can shop the current silhouettes, colours, and clothing styles in the stores and pick only what aligns with your personal brand. You will still be shopping a selection merchandised by sell through data, so consider investing the time and money that vintage, custom, or me-made can require. It is in these places that singularity really shines. Use styling, a good tailor, and inspiration from a variety of eras to your advantage and spend quality time with your closet.
The added benefit of figuring out your style is that it involves understanding yourself. So instead of basing your decision to invest on whether a piece will live above the trend cycle, you now clearly understand your inspirations, icons, history, and hopes and how they filter, define, and enrich your style. The result is confidence in style and in self that is both trend and judgement proof.
